GW, I didn't go with Linux this time as I was able to FINALLY get windows loaded. It took almost 6 hours on the phone over 3 days, but I have my computer back. I have some of the software loaded back, still need to load a couple others. Thankfully I still have the old laptop which has about 80-90% of the data files I lost on the new one. It will be a cold day in hell before I accept another update from them,

Thanks again for the info Grandpa Willie, I have bookmarked it in case this happens in the future.

apparently they did a re-install of the o/s: after that you'd have to re-install all your software (that doesn't come standard) -- and restore all your data files.

some research I've got into suggests that your hiberfil.sys had been written in error.    this would stop your machine from coming out of hibernation until the file could be deleted.

Glad you're back on the air though.

Why do you folks let Microsoft hold you hostage?

At least get on a schedule of backing up your user data.

I really think the best solution to the backup question is,....... RAID !!

Call Calico !!    get a jug of rye and get the horses!!    we'll find something to RAID :)
