Major Crimes
I started having some trouble with my 66 in the last 2 stages at the ACT comp. I thought I had over tightened the trigger spring screw but after striping it down to clean it may be something else. When I put it back together I realised I could see the back of the firing pin and the shiny metal extension (is that what its called? Its part 67 in the image) was seperated from the back of the bolt. I tried pushing the two back together and rotating the extension to lock it in place but it wouldnt lock? Is there a trick to this or is something broken?
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Depending on how old your 66 there may be a missing or broke pin. In this picture it is part 105. The pictured bolt is the newer style with a large pin (actually the front link pin) holding a metal plate. Part 721. The old ones simply had a very small diameter pin going through the bolt and into the notch on the front of part 67. When the pin is in place you should not be able to rotate the extension. Major Crimes
Bugger! Looks like a call to the local Gunsmith for parts. Thanks Larsen.
WOODFOX , sass#34179
That little pin measures .059 so a #53 drill shank cut it off and it will work. Thats if you have the early bolt . Woodfox
Mink Shoals Bandit, #49388
Actually there are 2 different size pins.. Don't remember the dimensions, but the "early " was smaller than the later version.........
Lawman Mays
I also have an 1866 Rifle. Part 721 is a "key" that holds the bolt extension to the firing pin. Make sure that key is firmly in place.
