One you don't see often.

 

Here's a Normandy Beach landing photo they don't show you in textbooks. Brave women of the Red Cross arriving in 1944 to help the injured troops.

Thanks Joe,

 

I have to wonder if maybe one of these brave gals tended to my father's wounds shortly after these pictures were taken. The timing is spookily accurate as he went ashore at Normandy on D plus 30 as I recall...

 

That his right arm was ultimately salvaged is testament to the skill of the men and women providing medical care all the way from the field back to the States. Unsung heroes and heroines, to be sure.
