Subdeacon Joe
http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Pa-paper-Sorry-for-panning-Gettysburg-Address-4983226.php HARRISBURG,Pa. (AP) — It took 150 years, but a Pennsylvania newspaper saidThursday it should have recognized the greatness of President Abraham Lincoln's Gettysburg Address at the time it was delivered. ThePatriot-News of Harrisburg, about 35 miles northeast of Gettysburg, retracted a dismissive editorial penned by its Civil War-erapredecessor, The Harrisburg Patriot & Union. The president's speech is now considered a triumph of American oratory. Theretraction, which echoes Lincoln's now-familiar language, said thenewspaper's November 1863 coverage was wrong when it described thespeech as "silly remarks" that deserved a "veil of oblivion." The paper now says it regrets the error of not seeing its "momentous importance, timeless eloquence and lasting significance." "Bytoday's words alone, we cannot exalt, we cannot hallow, we cannotvenerate this sacred text, for a grateful nation long ago came to viewthose words with reverence, without guidance from this chagrined memberof the mainstream media," the paper wrote, echoing the words ofthe address. http://blog.pennlive.com/gettysburg-150/2013/11/lincoln_gettysburg_address_har.html

Deadeye Doug Dalton SASS#65449L
Lincoln was a great man, indeed. Too bad he wasn't bulletproof.
Buckhorn Bud
Every Halloween we have a costume contest here at work which also includes some sort of tallent that goes along with the costume. Last year I dressed up as Abe Lincoln and recited the Gettysberg address. I won 1st place.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
How truly amazing that it only took the paper 150years to discover and admit their error. Puts them way to hell and gone ahead of most news media of today.
