St. Louis Suomi SASS #31905
Howdy: I have acquired a couple of new toys which have case coloring (the rest of my toys are blue or SS). Rather than find out that a particular brand of bore cleaner is a disaster on such finished items, I am inquiring here to see if I can get a few opinions based on experience. Your responses are most appreciated. Oh, toys are from Rossi and from EAA - that might be of help. STL Suomi
Clueless Bob
I got 2 EAA's with case coloring and so far good ole Hoppes #9 works a treat.
Captain Woodrow Cahill, SASS # 54363
If they're truly case hardened I don't think any cleaner would harm them. If it's a chemical process like Ruger used on their fake coloring a few years back then you might have an issue.
Dakota Rebel, SASS# 58412
With CB guns shooting lead bullets, Hoppes works great. If you are removing copper fouling from a High Power rifle and are using Sweets or Champions Choice, follow the instructions as it is corrorisve. St. Louis Suomi SASS #31905
Howdy: Thanks Folks: I was going to use good ol' Hoppes. I didn't see any warning, so I figured I would give it a try. You folks pretty much confirmed my approach. Thanks again. STL Suomi

backshootin beauford mcgee
On my Turnbull case finished guns they recommend breakfree or remoil only. They use a clearcoat over the metal to keep sunlight from dulling the case finish. Harsher chemicals than these products strip the clearcoat. No Hoppes!
