Chief Rick Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Folks, Down here in MS we can hunt with singles-shot exposed hammer rifles, as long as the caliber is larger than .35, during primitive weapon season. Am looking to pick up something for my wife to use and I'm not sure how comfortable she would be with a .45/70. I can only locate .45 Colt chambered rifles in the Buffalo Classic. Does the Buffalo Classic come drilled & tapped for a scope base?
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 Bufallo Classic, no. However the standard H&R Handi Rifle does.
Chief Rick Posted September 25, 2011 Author Posted September 25, 2011 Thanks - that's what I was kinda figgerin'...
Stubborn Dutchman, SASS # 61363 Posted September 25, 2011 Posted September 25, 2011 You can also consider looking at the Remington Rolling Block, or clones, in 38-55. She should be able to handle that with no trouble.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Here's an item or two to check out: Lyman Sharps Cheaper that Dirt has 'em for a LOT less than the "MSRP..." Or: Chiappa "Li'l Sharps" Among other calibers it is available in .45 Colt... as is the one sold by Taylor's: Taylor's Half-Pint Sharps
Willie Wheelgun Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 The 38-55 is much more lady friendly and I am told it may have killed as many deer as the 30-30. I have let several ladies shoot mine and they did quite well.
Iron Pony Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Chief you might also want to see if theres a 357Max bbl floating around.
Chief Rick Posted September 26, 2011 Author Posted September 26, 2011 Thanks for the info guys. It looks like I'll be staying with one of the sythetic H&R's or NER's in order to mount a scope. I have my eyes on a couple in .357 MAg & .44 Mag. At the distance we shoot, either will be more than adequate to bring down a deer.
