SaukValley Sam, SASS # 66557
:FlagAm: I am an Illinois native who left 42 years ago for the AF (one step ahead of a draft notice). Now that I am a SASS shooter I might want to go back for a match (Sparta?) when I visit family . I researched the need for a Firearm Owners Identification (FOID). I see where I need one as a non resident traveling in IL but not how to obtain it. Any Illini shooters out there who can enlighten me? Thanks. Marauder SASS #13056
This may help. http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/firearmsfaq.cfm As a non-resident, I do not believe you need a FOID. As I understand you can even buy ammo by showing your out of state driver's license.

Marauder SASS #13056
In fact, from this, a nonresident cannot get a FOID. Strange isn't it... http://www.isp.state.il.us/foid/foidapp.cfm Notice an Illinois (pronounced "Ill- in -noise" *) license or ID is required. + I know because long ago, I worked in Des Plaines, Illinois :D

In the northern Ill farm country where I grew up, we pronounced it "Ill-in-oi" with no "s" on the end. Grew up about 15 miles from President Reagan's birth place of Tampico. When he ran for president the national media always used the politically correct "Tam-pi'-co". But residents and locals used "Tamp-ico" (all one tone). Chili Ron
Pard, Some gun dealers will be much more up to date on non resident purchases. And dont expect cops to know all that much about what is leegal/illegal for non residents. Heck, lot of em dont even know the laws for residents of Illinois( ILL i noi-I think it was an indian tribe). Some prefer to just travel without stickers on cars and some have stickers all over. I like no attention, no confrontation, no explanations to cops or judges. ymmv. Best CR
Marauder SASS #13056
Sorry, I was only teasing about the pronunciation of Illinois. The normal pronunciation is as you have said, based on the Indian tribe. But they added the "s" sounds to Des Plaines rather than keeping them silent as you would expect.. Good folks in Illinois, but their socialistic dictator laws (They call them liberal, but are anything but liberal) - even their speed limit is not liberal. So now I know the proper pronunciation for those "Demoncratic" folks would be "It'll annoy ya."
