Subdeacon Joe Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 We know he did his own stunt work. I saw "North To Alaska" a few days ago and got to wondering, did he do his own climbing at the lumberjack picnic?
The O'Meara Himself Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 JW did some of his own stunt work but not very much. When he was dragged under the coach in "Stagecoach" in 1939 it was Yakima Canutt. Movie producers don't like the star they're paying several million dollars to get banged up and put a whole multi-million dollar movie on a multi million dollar hold while he heals up. Or not. The O'Meara, Himself
Flashpowder Hal Posted July 29, 2011 Posted July 29, 2011 When I lived in Sequim, WA, I knew one of Duke's stuntmen who lived there, John Wayne donated the property for the town's marina, and named it after him. Some of his family still owns property up there. "Pete", retired stuntman, is a giant man with a good sense of humor

Lightnin Rick SASS #43246 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Sorry but its way obvious that he did not do much of his own stunts. From what I have seen anyways.
Subdeacon Joe Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 Ah! Early on he did his own. Not for his full career. That was my confusion.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783 Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 did he do his own climbing at the lumberjack picnic? Sorry, whenever I see 'lumberjack' with regards to movies, I think of the "I'm a lumberjack" Monte Python song. I'm a lumberjack and I'm ok I work at night and I sleep all day...
