  1. Have you seen Rio Bravo with Dean Martin and Rick Nelson? El Dorado was pretty much the same movie story with a different cast. Had Robert Mitchum in it.
  2. He was the car mechanic in the St Valentines day Massacre. He was not part of Moran's gang just his mechanic that got caught up and killed for being there.
  3. Did you try Peacemaker Specialists? I got some cylinder bushings from them a couple of months ago. They seem to be well stocked on Colt parts.
  4. There was both Army and Marines in the battles for Okinawa. My neighbor was in the Army during WW2 and he was there and I think Saipan both. I know he said he was in on 2 island campaigns. He passed away from a fall almost 2 years ago. I sure miss Everett.
  5. That approach will come back to bite them in the butt. In the late 90's and early 2000's Montana had a brainstorm that there were too many deer in some areas. Anyone including out of state hunters could buy up to 5 doe tags (Whitetail or Muley's). Well, since then with harsh winters, deep snow and blue tongue disease the deer population on both species is not good. But they knew what they were doing...just ask em. When I was still living in Minnesota a legal Buck was about 3 inch antlers. Doe tags were on a drawing basis.
  6. I shoot 51 Richard Mason 5 1/2inch conversions in 38. When I ordered the last one I decided to order a 71/2 inch barrel for it too. It took my gunsmith to get the 7 1/2 inch barrel to fit that frame. I also found out that just because they're the same model and same maker not all things are equal. I had them both apart cleaning them and got the cylinder's crossed up. One would fit either gun, but the other would only fit the one it came on. Can we spell quality control?
  7. We haven't used the AR 500 due to cost compared to the 400. We're lucky in that the club has a life member that cuts all of our steel (and steel for other clubs we shoot at) at his water jet business for FREE. His brother has worked for a steel business (Pacific Steel) as a welder for over 20 years. He's the one that told us cutting up the 400 3/8inch is not a good idea with a torch unless you heat the entire plate 1st; then it doesn't cause the carbon to be drawn to the hot edges. But I guess that's comparing apples to oranges...AR400 vs AR500 3/8inch vs 1/2inch etc. When we buy the AR400 3/8 the steel company cuts the one edge with a torch and it's rough as a cob. I always have them add 1 inch to the sheet so the water jet can cut that rough edge off when cutting the targets.
  8. We've been using AR400 3/8inch for the last several years and it holds up very well. We're also lucky in that we have a member that owns a water jet cutting business. Cutting AR, or any steel, with a torch draws the carbon to that area and weakens the steel. The last lots of steel we had made into18x19 inch targets. He then cuts a square hole about 2-3 inches down from the top edge for a 1/2 inch carriage bolt to hang the target on brackets he also cuts for us. That hanger style lets us reverse the target face each year. An 8ft x 8ft sheet gets 25 targets but the cost around here is $810- $840 for a sheet that size; depending on the market at the time. I just got a sheet for another club I shoot at and that size of AR was $835. They got 25 new targets which they needed badly, and the remainder of the $850 they had got the hanger brackets using 1/4 x 4 inch flat bar.
  9. The Russians loved them. They were great for ground attack as mentioned, but they learned how to fight air to air with them and had pretty good success. The air base here was a prep base for the lend lease program. They'd get all types of aircraft in, prep and re-paint them with all but the Red Star then they'd be ferried to Alaska where the Russian pilots would take them across the straight. They really liked the King Cobra.
  10. I have 3 Uberti 73's in 3 different lengths. A 44-40 24 inch, 2 38/357's, 1 19 inch and 1 20 inch. As my shoulder has started bothering me more I tend to shoot the 19 inch carbine the most. I actually prefer that and the 24 inch one more than the 20. All are the straight stock model. I couldn't get use to a pistol grip rifle.
