German Jim
Is there a preferred #10 percussion cap to use for a new Uberti 1861 Navy. Remington, CCI or whatever I can get?
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
If you have factory nipples on this gun, I can't answer the question, because I don't think factory nipples are very good, and I never use them. For about 25 years, I have always suggested that you change the nipples out for Slix or Treso nipples, and use Remington #10 caps. Course, Slix nipples are relatively recent -- Before that, there were only Tresos, and I still prefer them. Doing this will solve any ignition problems. --Dawg Edited September 6 by Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Sedalia Dave
Once you install Slix, Treso, or AMPCO nipples (available from Track of the Wolf) Remington #10 are the preferred caps. They tend to stay seated on the nipples better because they have a longer skirt than any other brand. I bought 2K from Scheels a couple months ago.. Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Here’s an article by Mako on this very topic. Notice that Remington caps are made to fit the aftermarket nipples.
