Whitey James
I ordered a pair of these online in .45 Colt and both have issues right out of the box. Both of them, when loaded, bind up the cylinder so it does not rotate in half cock. I tried it using brand new Starline Brass (unloaded/unprimed) to see if it was my reloads and the same issue. The base pins are super hard to get in and out and they have that silly two notch safety system. They are on their way back to Taylors & Co. to be checked out I was just curious as to if anyone else has had a similar issue with this model? Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
If they are new call Taylor's. If used or you want to try to fix it yourself the first thing to determine is what is binding. If the cylinder is empty and the gun placed on half-cock does the cylinder rotate OK? If so it is most likely either binding at the barrel end or the breech face. With brass in the cylinder is there any cylinder gap? If no then it is a fairly easy fix to take a facing tool and create some gap. If there is some cylinder gap then that means it is probably sticking on the breech face. That is more difficult to fix and require some additional investigation. If these are used are there burrs around the firing pin holes? Whitey James
They went back to Taylors today. I was just wondering if I am just that unlucky or is the QA just that bad at Pietta
Warden Callaway
If they are made by Uberti, there is a ledge on the recoil face about 2:00 viewed from front. I'll see if I can find a picture. Edited August 29 by Warden Callaway
Abilene, SASS # 27489
If the new empty brass still binds in it then it does sound like the gun problem. I hate the Pietta cylinder pins. I put an Uberti base pin in my Pietta. You can get an Uberti one that has no safety notch. The 3-click Ubertis use those.
