On this day 142 years ago - September 19, 1881 - President James Abram Garfield, age 49, died at about 10:35 p.m. Garfield was shot by Charles Guiteau on July 2 and then endured nearly 80 days of great suffering. His home is 15 minutes from here and I follow the Garfield home on Facebook. I’ve visited there a few times and even tuned a piano there.
