Shifty Jack, SASS #65353
I have seen in a few articles pictures of Colt style cap and ball pistols where the hammer Spurs have bent back to an angle closer to a SAA. Is there any clarification or guidelines on if this is match legal that I'm just missing? Shifty
Tyrel Cody
Shooters Handbook pg. 34 Quote All parts may be smoothed, re-profiled, polished, de-burred, or replaced provided they are not prohibited in these Covenants. Quote Hammers -Hammers may be replaced or exchanged with hammers designed for the same frame size (e.g., small frame revolver hammers may not be installed on large frame revolvers or vice versa). -Internal parts of the hammer may be changed (e.g., to allow for a half-cock notch on a revolver). -Ruger Super-Blackhawk/Montado style revolver hammers (i.e., lowered and widened hammers) are acceptable on both adjustable and fixed sight model revolvers. -Hammer stops may be added. -The hammer travel distance on any revolver may be adjusted. -Rear sight notches cut into the revolver hammer may be widened. -Hammer spur grooves may be recut. They aren't prohibited anywhere that I'm aware of.
Shifty Jack, SASS #65353
Totally read right over reprofiled in the shb. I saw where they could be replaced, just wasn't sure on modifying the original.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
Re profiling the hammers is the last thing to do after all other issues have been addressed, and you're certain the gun will run with a lighter hammer spring.
