I must admit, I do not care for his early movies. He sure made up for them though. It has hundreds of actors, scores of covered wagons (before Hollywood made their own), real snow storms, oxen pulling the wagons, real Indian actors, a realistic Indian village, marvelous scenery, and pretty decent acting and costuming for its day. Also had the people "scissoring" wagons down a cliff, and a river crossing where I think dozens of cattle must have really drowned.
