DocWard
I found this a fascinating piece, especially the brief comparison to other historical figures. As an Ohio Wesleyan University graduate, and a History Minor, I am a little surprised I didn't know of the connection. Obviously and understandably a connection that is not played up, but at the same time, I suppose the university's willingness to accept her back after her debt was paid says something.https://www.cleveland.com/books/index.ssf/2011/05/axis_sally_ohio-born_mildred_g.html
Sparky Nelson
Huh. I used to drive by that cemetery every day to go to work. I'd heard of Axis Sally as a youngster. Her name was used as an insult by Mom's family, who sent two boys to Europe during the war. (Both of 'em came home, thankfully.) But I'll bet they didn't know just how close we were to her. Pat Riot
I would bet that if she were male she would have been hanged when she was brought back to the USA...and rightfully so.
