Wesson&Harrington Plainsman/Longrange Rifle

The Dash Caliber Taco Emporium Bankruptcy, Foreclosure, Husband Bashing, Table Waiting, Cursing Contest and Moving Sale Continues

Now this is starting to hurt but the truth is it will be years before I will have the time to shoot Plainsman again. This W&H is what the Handi Rifle comes from. I bought it new in the box when it was 10 years old and that was some years ago. The great thing about this gun is it can be used in both Plainsman and Long Range. They came with nice checkered wood, CCH receivers and a heavy target barrel purportedly made by Green Mountain. Slip a 1/8 in rubber washer on the inside of the forearm bolt and you have the easiest bedding job you will ever do. I can ring 200 yard steel with it till I get bored. It shoots long range better with my smokeless load than with BP. I use a .379 240g bullets. I have 360 of them you can buy. Big heavy bullets don’t seem to stabilize well and anything smaller than .379 just goes nuts. I think a .380 in Moly would be a good set up as well. Sites can take you out a ways but my eyes stop at 300yards. Great caliber to shoot but requires careful reloading and a notepad to shoot Long Range for site settings. It will shoot both lengths of brass. It looks like it was made in 1874 as well. Much more Cowboy than the other tip- ups.

It has the now very rare Smith folding ladder/ buckhorn that was made for this specific gun. That alone cost up towards $200 back then. Good luck finding one now. Lee Shaver hooded front site. It has some small marks on wood from Plainsman dropping but nothing that would be out of normal. I have some lead shot in the stock cavity to balance against the heavy barrel for Plainsman. It has the gamer ejector in it but it comes with another extractor to convert to by driving out two pins. It has some internal stone work on the opening lever to help in Plainsman speed and on the nice crisp trigger that helps all round. When it sells I can then list RCBS dies, lead and brass for it. If you need those speak up. I figure with no sites it would be fairly priced at $300 and so I think $500 shipped is fair. Not bad for 2 guns in one.

Two guns in one?

What is the caliber, 38-55?

These are handie, but I believe the sight is not legal for SASS Long Range. You would still need to add a tang sight.

Actually, the Smith sight IS legit for SASS matches. However, it is still available from Buffalo Arms. (Just bought one) This is a very nice looking rifle in a no longer available caliber.

Thanks for the defense...they are marked as low stock so I suspect you better get them while you can....there were none to be had for a loooong time. Yet shipped like I do with insurance that protects both parties I still believe my price is fair....Still I stand corrected.

I'm sorry Percy. This gun sold last week locally. I failed to edit post.
