Court Bans Keeping a Gun In a Nightstand

So... if you violate the law and have a gun in your nightstand, wake up to an intruder about to run you through with a butcher knife, grab the gun and wound said assailant... what? He can sue you??

"Yer Honor! He had a GUN in his nightstand! That's against the rules and just ain't FAIR!"

"...law mandates that San Francisco gun owners keep their firearms disabled with a trigger lock or stored in a locked container when not being carried – a requirement that no doubt benefits criminals and home intruders...

"The enforcement of the law has also been called into question. Will merely owning a gun give police officers the power to enter a home at any time to inspect firearm storage habits?

"Judge Sandra S. Ikuta of the US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals noted in the gun control law opinion that gun safes can be opened quickly so the new requirements does not “substantially prevent law-abiding citizens” from using their guns to defend themselves in their homes..."

The most glaring disfunction of our jurisprudence system is that judges are appointed and are therefore not accountable to the citizenry that they judge.

Federal judges, yup.... :(

Surprisingly, however, that's not exactly true for our state.

Dunno about other states, but the California Supreme Court judges are appointed, and are also ratified by the electorate at the next general election following their appointment and at the end of each twelve year term.

Courts of Appeal judges are selected, confirmed, and ratified just like the Supreme Court justices, although only the electorate in the appellate district vote to ratify the justices.

Superior Court judges are appointed by the Governor if it's to fill a vacancy, or elected by the county if the vacancy appears at the end of the 6-year term.

Additionally, every judge, appointed or elected, is up for election at the end of the six-year term.

But then... consider who the voters are.

Well this is no surprise. The 9th Circus is the most overturned court in the country.

As for Judge Sandra S. Ikuta, Ding Dong, Ding Dong......

Just goes to show you that black robes don't make people wise.
