Buzzard II
I have a Winchester 94 Cheyenne Commemorative in 44-40 and was wondering if anyone on the SASS Wire has used one of these in local matches. I plan on using black powder only. Thanks! Bob
Tex Jones, SASS 2263
Many shooters use the 44-40 round but not many use the '94. The action is not very conducive to shooting quickly but, if that doesn't bother you, it can certainly be used. I started with one but switched to Ubertis after one season. Everyone I know started with a 94. The action was designed for a .30-30 round and it doesn't work too well for pistol calibers. You'd be better off with a 92. Of course you'd be waaaay better off with a 73 or 66!! Rye
backshootin beauford mcgee
yep, the 94 works best with 30-30 length cartridges. Seen pistol length cartridges in the 94 give some feeding problems. Seems to vary gun to gun. You could have a good one or not so much.
Bramble Mountain Buzzard
I worked on over for another shooter a couple years ago. The biggest thing is to keep the rifle level when levering. Don't start until you have it level on your shoulder... I do have to agree that it's not the best choice for SASS. Buzzard (the original)
