Wonder if it would look much different?

Probably would flatten out some, would be my guess.

 

Also I assume the numbers on the left of the graph are in 1000's?

That is per 100K. The 2011 rate was 4.8/100K. Total homicides was 12, 664. Firearm homicides was 8,583, 6,220 of which were handgun.

In Chicago the homicide rate is 15.2/100k. Scary!
