I scrounged some various Mauser stripper clips and actually bought a real Model 8 stripper clip. The thin Argentine works intermittently, sometimes success, sometimes jamming half way through. The other Mauser stripper clips worked even less reliably. The real McCoy worked first time, every time. Long story, short - Mauser stripper clips are OK for storage, not for loading.

Got the Argentine Mauser M91 Early stripper clips for 7.65 Mauser (slim & thin, no guide bumps) from Liberty Tree Collectors. They hold the 35 Remington cartridges just fine. I was able to use it to load my Model 8. Took a little practice, but it is doable.

Just ordered some 8mm Mauser stripper clips. Will let you know if they work in my .35 Rem Mdl 8.

JP Sauer still exists. However, most likely what you have is a pre-WWII shotgun. The value will vary, depending on the model, level of engraving, and wood used. If you do intend to use it, be aware that it was chambered for 2-1/2" shells. It is possible a previous owner extended the chamber for 2-3/4", but you will need a chamber gauge to tell. If it is still 2-1/2, I suggest you leave it so and shoot appropriate length shells. Using longer shells can result in dangerous over pressure. MagTech brass shells can be used. Brass shells, mostly, with Circle Fly wads. At large matches, primed 2-1/2" hulls, BPI 072SSW wads, 1 oz 7-1/2 shot, 2 drams of BP (~55 grains, ~3.5 grams), and overshot card. Hand load the BP with a scoop, the rest on my MEC Jr with the 2-1/2" conversion plate.

I used to know how to change the oil in my car and many other things. First purchase after buying a new (or used) car was always a copy of the shop manual. These days I wouldn't know how to change the oil. My latest vehicle only needs the oil changed once a year or every 17,000 miles, whichever comes first.

I agree with Tennessee Stud and Tom Bullweed, too many convictions are being overturned because of DNA and corrupt witnesses. There is also the cost of the process of execution in this country, there are better ways to spend the money. I kinda favor the Feds building a prison just for such criminals - death penalty, life without parole, etc - in some remote area. You go in and you never come out. Cheap to build, just losts of fences and nothing for days around. Don't even need doors on the cells. How well would you sleep every night, knowing everyone else there is a murderer and the door tain't locked? Heh heh heh.

The cost of keeping them in inventory is only a problem because it prevents the AF brass from buying more F-35s - no more unlimited budget. Whether the F-35 can really replace the A-10 (it can't) is irrelevant. They have a bright, shiny, over-the-horizon, toy that they really, really, really want. Unfortunately, the F-35 is just another SNAFU in a long line of poor judgement calls by AF brass going back to the 60s. The missile only F4 and the multi-service F111, being early examples. It is sort of like wanting to sell the family van so you can buy a Ferrari when the wife is about to have your third child.

You can trim the hulls to 2-1/2", load the shell for 2-3/4", put an overshot card in, and then do a standard crimp. The crimp will only partially cover the top, but it will hold the overshot card in place. Not as cool as doing a rolled crimp, but you don't have to change your reloading press from 2-3/4", and you will get multiple uses out of the shell. Not my idea, but the inventor's name escapes me at the moment.

Used to have several chili recipes that I would cook. Now this is the only one. Instead of cubing the beef and cooking it, I cut it into long strips, brown the four sides and then cube the cooked meat. It is so much easier to brown that way. Ingredients 2 ounces dried, whole New Mexico (California), guajillo, or pasilla chiles, or a combination (6 to 8 chiles) 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin seed 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Kosher salt 5 tablespoons lard, vegetable oil, or rendered beef suet 2 1/2 pounds boneless beef chuck, well trimmed and cut into 3/4-inch x 3/4 inch strips (to yield 2 pounds after trimming) 1/3 cup finely chopped onion 3 large cloves garlic, minced 2 cups beef stock , or canned low-sodium beef broth, plus more as needed 2 tablespoons masa harina (corn tortilla flour) 1 tablespoon firmly packed dark brown sugar, plus more as needed 1 1/2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar, plus more as needed Sour cream Lime wedges preparation 1. Place the chiles in a straight-sided large skillet over medium-low heat and gently toast the chiles until fragrant, 2 to 3 minutes per side. Don't let them burn or they'll turn bitter. Place the chiles in a bowl and cover them with very hot water and soak until soft, 15 to 45 minutes, turning once or twice. 2. Drain the chiles; split them and remove stems and seeds (a brief rinse helps remove seeds, but don't wash away the flesh). Place the chiles in the bowl of a blender and add the cumin, black pepper, 1 tablespoon salt and 1/4 cup water. Purée the mixture, adding more water as needed (and occasionally scraping down the sides of the blender jar), until a smooth, slightly fluid paste forms (you want to eliminate all but the tiniest bits of skin.) Set the chile paste aside. 3. Return skillet to medium-high heat and melt 2 tablespoons of the lard. When it begins to smoke, swirl skillet to coat and add half of the beef. Lightly brown on 4 sides sides, about 2 to 3 minutes per side, reducing the heat if the meat threatens to burn. Transfer to a bowl and repeat with 2 more tablespoons of lard and the remaining beef. Cut strips into cubes. Reserve. 4. Let the skillet cool slightly, and place it over medium-low heat. Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of lard in the skillet; add the onion and garlic and cook gently for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add the stock, the remaining 2 cups water and gradually whisk in the masa harina to avoid lumps. Stir in the reserved chile paste, scraping the bottom of the skillet with a spatula to loosen any browned bits. Add the reserved beef (and any juices in the bowl) and bring to a simmer over high heat. Reduce heat to maintain the barest possible simmer (just a few bubbles breaking the surface) and cook, stirring occasionally, until the meat is tender but still somewhat firm and 1 1/2 to 2 cups of thickened but still liquid sauce surrounds the cubes of meat, about 2 hours. 5. Stir in the brown sugar and vinegar thoroughly and add more salt to taste; gently simmer 10 minutes more. At this point, it may look like there is excess sauce. Turn off the heat and let the chili stand for at least 30 minutes, during which time the meat will absorb about half of the remaining sauce in the skillet, leaving the meat bathed in a thick, somewhat fluid sauce. Stir in additional broth or water if the mixture seems too dry. If the mixture seems a bit loose and wet, allow it to simmer a bit more. Adjust the balance of flavors with a bit of additional salt, sugar, or vinegar, if you like. 6. Reheat gently and serve in individual bowls with a dollop of sour cream on top and a lime wedge on the side.

As of Friday morning, I'd bet on terrorism. Before then, work place violence was a possibility. My only concern was this rush to explain before the facts are in, as often we tend to remember those first impressions in spite of later information. In particular, the speculation generated by the talking heads during the crisis. The fear of dead air while not wanting to cover other issues as that might mean they would miss being live even caused stations that started out with objective reporting to devolve into idiocy. The San Bernadino Police and FBI did an excellent job at trying to control speculation and stick to confirmed facts. How many people will use this as basis for restrictions on civilian ownership of bullet proof vests because the early press said they were wearing them, even though all they were wearing were tactical vests?

It is more a 'pick your statistic'. Obama referenced 'mass shootings', not mass killings or number of people killed in mass killing acts. Weasel wording? Maybe. Probably. Is it legitimate? Depends. With mass shooting, he is probably relying on ShootingTracker.com. This site tracks published incidents where a gun was used, remember this is all about that evil gun, and 4 or more people were injured or killed (the perpetrator(s) included). This is not what the FBI tracks, or any other government. Is it legitimate? That is hotly debated. The Lott article is a good reference to have available as it counters a lot of misinformation and brings together a lot of information that is hard for the layman to gather.

Let's remember terrorism is the use of violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims. It is not just violence by a Muslim, even though it probably is. The attacks against Planned Parenthood are, by definition, terrorism. Until we know why they did this horrible act, we can not classify it as terrorism.

Since I cast my own bullets for many of the calibers I shoot, I do have my lead level tested every 2 years. It is within normal levels. The important part of the process is to use common sense. When I cast, or handle lead, I make sure I don't have any food or drink around. I always wash my hands after contact, before eating, drinking, touching my face. I cast in a well ventilated area, etc.

All the seasons are now on Netflix streaming. Worth signing up to watch the series. If that is all you want to see, then you can sign up for a month, marathon the series, and close the account. All but the current season of Hell on Wheels is also available. While using a ROKU box or an Amazon Fire stick allows you use your TV, you can stream to your PC or tablet or phone (Android/Apple). All (PC, iPad, ROKU, Fire Stick) require a good Internet connection. Depending on the model, the ROKU can use RCA and wired internet or HDMI and WIFI. The Amazon Fire Stick requires a TV HDMI connection and WIFI, but it is cheaper than ROKU. You can get a refurb Fire Stick for $35.00. Cheapest Refurb ROKU I've found is about $40.

If you shoot WB, the ammo should not be stored in the magazines. Handguns, long guns, and ammunitions should be in separate bags/boxes/... in the trunk or a locked container in the back of RV/SUV/truck. Handguns should be in a locked gun case(s)

Tom Selleck really likes the Jesse Stone character. I have a feeling that, as long as Hallmark Channel orders more, he will continue producing and starring in them.
