Badlands Beady
I managed to latch onto a pair of S&W 2000 Schofields, one of them Serial Number 0013. Figuring that these would be the best guns I'd probably ever own, I decided to put all my beer money into them, and first had them smoothed out. Then I sent them off to Outlaw Grips for elephant ivory and they came back gorgeous. Then I spent months looking for a scrimshawer (scrimshander?) and found Nutmeg Sports in CT, two states over. I told them generally what I was looking for, but otherwise gave them carte blanche. That was five weeks ago. Yesterday, got one of those little pink cards in the mailbox telling me they could be picked up at the PO the next day (today) between 9 and 11. No problem, the wife can pick up the package, but I've been on pins and needles ever since, I slept lousy (lousily?) last night, and I'm stuck at work for another six hours! AAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!! Next step is to send them off to Treestump Leather, in Maine, for specially-made and carved holsters and belt. Stumpy wants one of the guns for fitting, and to coordinate the design on the leather with the design on the grips. Somewhere along the line, I'm thinking of having the front sights nickled. Looks like I'll be buried with them, eventually. Won't be able to split the set and give half to each of my sons 'cause of the leather, and no one will be able to afford buying the complete outfit. Widder, SASS #59054
1st: ya got good taste 2nd: stay with the task and get R dun like you want. I bought a Remington XP100 a few years back in .308 which was already set up for silouette. I didn't even shot sillouette. But, I did varmint hunt. Sooooooo, I set out the task of having Shilen put a 15" heavy stainless 6mm BR barrel on it with a tight neck chamber. Then, I had McMillian put a black pebble grain stock to it. I had some bolt and trigger work done by a specialist somewhere in Pennsylvania. Tweaked my handloads, etc..... I could trully get sub .2 groups with it at 100 yards. I even ambushed some crows with it once from a distance of about 175 yards. I waited till two of them were lined up side by side and managed to get BOTH of them with one shot. My point is that it took awhile to accomplish what I wanted but it was well worth it. Congrats on those Schofields! ..........Widder

Widder, SASS #59054
Ketchum: I know you've heard this story from others and here is mine. I let that XP100 go during my venturous purchases of Cowboy stuff. Although I had a pretty penny invested in it, my best recollection is that I got approx $1200 out of it in a good trade for me. Trading saved me over $100 in tax plus the stuff I got has gained in value alittle faster than that XP100. Anyhow, thats my story and I'm stickin to it. p.s. - I do have 1 pix of the XP sitting on the ground in front of me while I'm holding up 2 ground hogs. I have it framed right above my loading bench. ..........Widder

Manatee
Frustrated? Girls. My only advice: If you solve the problem the same way, make sure you stop before you go blind.
