Hellgate #3302 L Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I've been using the heavy wool gray Swiss army full length coat for cold & wet weather which is the norm for 6 months of the year around here. After a day of rain, I'm still plenty warm but have gained a pound or two of wet wool. Is there a light weight rain slicker that that you can shoot from? I see guys wearing the oiled canvas heavy duty rain gear/drover/outback overcoats but it looks pretty bulky & heavy. I just want something fairly authentic, functional (waterproof), that doesn't feel like I'm wearing a tent. I don't need something big enough to cover a horse as I don't ride. What do you guys/gals shoot in when it's raining? What size do you get? I normally wear a size 42 shell jacket. So, do you get one or two sizes larger? Brands? Prices?
Dark Ranger Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 See if you can find a troopers slicker,i had one and it folded into it's own bag,it was real nice, with head cover and all.I traded it for somethin. This looks good: http://www.drysdales.com/Mens/Outerwear/Rain-Slickers/detail-17885-Black-Saddle-Slicker.html
Ranger Clayton Conagher #43872 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I have oiled canvas but I am not a big fan of it. As I get wet the rain runs down my arm and carries the oil with it then makes my hands slippery. Not Safe! My next coat will be cotton canvas jacket that I will soak in This spray
Shotgun Bandit Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Dry as a bone from Australia....I think it is spelled Driazabone
Lone Dog, SASS #20401 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I wear what the old time cowboys wore, genuine yellar fish slicker. I believe I got it from Wild West Mercantile.
Badlands Beady Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Light weight, breathes, and looks good: http://www.wwmerc.com/cgi-bin/category.cgi?item=8123PS&type=store&category=3014

Seldom Seen #16162 Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 Being a cheep, er cheap, yeah thats right cheap I brought a couple of brown plastic ones I found at a Farm and Ranch store for less than $20.00 each. I got them for when we go trailriding. They work really good too. The last thunderstorm we got caught in they were hanging in the garage dry as a bone.
Buckshot Frank Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 I almost bought one of the yellow slickers from a vendor at the Ides of March. It looked authentic and was only 35 bucks. Then the guy I was with said "If it is raining hard enough to need a slicker, I'm putting my guns in the car". After thinking about that nugget of wisdom for a minute, I decided that I probably didn't need a slicker...
Wait A. Minute Posted March 23, 2012 Posted March 23, 2012 You can get them at Tractor Supply for $39.95.
