Wild Nick Billock SASS #53521 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 What is a good tang peep sight for a winchester 1894? The Lyman #2 looks like it would work for hunting and cowboy long range. What else should be considered?
Griff Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 There are receiver peeps available from Williams and others, but not legal in SASS. Go over to Leverguns.com to discuss them. Several guys there really like them... I happen to feel the longer sight radius a tang offers is best.
Big Jake1001 Posted July 2, 2011 Posted July 2, 2011 I have a Winchester 1894 30WCF made in 1908 with a 26 inch barrel and a Lyman 1A tang sight. It has a flip down hole to give the shooter a choice of a small peep for target work, or a larger peep for hunting. It also has a locking device for when it's in the up position. I use it for 100-400 yards. http://i484.photobucket.com/albums/rr204/rantingmadhare/Aman_Park040.jpg Big Jake
Throckmorton,23149 Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 I used a Lyman's on my model 94 when I used it for cas,and it worked fine.I left the apertures out and used it as a ghost ring sight,at our distances it was all I needed. It was also less money than the Marbles. Now that I have a marbles on a non cas lever gun, they are pretty darned good also.If money allowed,I'd go marbles every time now.
