Abilene, SASS # 27489
Howdy Show Me. I've heard of people using 1911 hammer springs when doing action jobs. Some mention of it here: https://marauder.homestead.com/files/TuneBaik.html
Count Sandor, SASS #74075
The 1911 springs work well. Did this a good 17 years ago, and don't remember the weight of the springs I used. The number 20# is rattling around in my head, but please don't take that as a definite answer - you might have to experiment. If you haven't done this before, some advice: 1. Clamp the hammer struts in a vice to disassemble. The old jokes about Baikal using surplus Russian tank springs isn't that far off; 2. If memory serves, the 1911 springs may have to be trimmed for length; 3. The bores in which the struts live may be very roughly machined - any smoothing work you can do in there is a big help. Jonathan Slim Chance
I used the factory springs from my Ruger Vaqueros, and they've worked perfectly for years. I think I used the factory Bakail springs as suspension replacements on a 1965 Ford. 😉
