Black powder shotgun shells

For Lady Jane and her dad, I used Remington gold hulls only. Mainly so that they didn’t get APP and smokeless mixed up. I would tumble them in crushed walnut with Lucas Metal polish and load them. They never put anything on them but swabbed the chambers before each stage with Balistol. Never had a problem with them sticking.

However I still check all my shells with a case gauge. Any shell that doesn't check out gets put in the tubs for my 1897 and my 1887.  Only shotgun shells that check out on the case gauge go into the box for my SxS's.

If you travel with them very far or the humidity level changes much from boxing to shooting, expect issues. I finally started gauging at the cart before putting them in my belt. Caught more than one bad one.
