British Bugle Calls

Attended a really interesting presentation by a Civil War re-enactor, a musician.

He described bugle calls -- how each unit had its "header", a series of notes to designate that "The following is for this particular bunch" -- then the command itself, wheel right, forward, whatever the command was.

He said musicians had fancy uniforms they never wore except for parades, as the enemy looked for musicians and picked them off, as they were necessary for battlefield commo.

When you post British bugle calls, to quote Paul Harvey, you have my undivided!

They also had, since the calls were passed down the line, calls for "say again" if the next one didn't get it.  And a "Hey! You messed up!" for it bugler #1 heard bugler #2 make a mistake.   Also one for "I made a mistake, starting over."

Quite a sophisticated system.
