I shoot mine occasionally it is a 45 colt.  I made the stick to hold 10 rounds and keep the follower from hitting my hand.  In AZ for summer matches the barrel and magazine get rather warm, burn your hand hot actually when doing a 6 stage match.  Shot it at the first EOT in AZ as I recall.  Cool weather and 4 stages barrel heat not a problem.  Once must be careful when loading not to allow the mag follower to slam into the rounds.  With the stick not much of a problem as the follower does not go very far before hitting stick.  One should still exercise care and let it down in a controlled fashion. I have also learned the funny bump at the end of the barrel was not put there to make it hurt worse if inserted and actually will help eliminate misses.
