Warden Callaway
I shot the last two matches with my 10 gauge Remington Whitmore Lifter shotgun weighing in at over 10 pounds. One match I shot my old Marlin 94 in 38WCF with 26" hex barrel and the next using my original Winchester 73 in 38WCF with 24" hex barrel. Both heavy iron. I love those old guns but lugging around the extra weight adds up to in the summer heat. I'm rethinking my choice of guns for August. I will go back to my CZ-USA Hammer Coach and I got my Marlin 1894C out of the back of the safe and been out limbering it up. The 1984c is dwarfed by the old 94 in 38WCF. The old 94 is stock with strong flat mainspring - a manly gun of a 100 years ago. The 1884c has spring kit, one-piece firing pin and smoothed up here and there. The leather boot and lever cover make it easier to cycle. I'll still shoot black powder. I noted at our last local match with 23 shooters, just one other shooter and I shot black powder. Several others that normally shoot black powder, decided to shoot smokeless. Anyone else have seasonal guns?
Hoss
I usually shoot BP at our 5gh Saturday matches. 44-40 pistols, 1860 Henry in 44-40 and 10G double. But I’m summertime they are too heavy and too hot! ive been threatening to shoot Buckaroo with 22s and a 410. May just do it at our August 5th Saturday match. Especially the shotgun - if you shoot more than two shots. I shot my nickel plated Colt in a match the first time. When I got home and started to clean it, I found this ugly spot on top strap. I was really concerned. Turned out it was carpet material from unloading table melted onto it. I dab of Flitz took it right off.
