Fast Tracker
I just bought an older Marlin, pre-safety. The action is very slick without a round in the chamber. I am using PPU, Prvi Partizan, ammunition. With a round, fired or unfired, in the chamber the lever must be forced open. The cartridge is not sticking in the chamber. A fired shell was firmly seated in the chamber. It only took a light push from a rod to free it. It seems as though the hook on the lever is catching on the locking bolt. I haven't had a chance to try another brand of ammo yet. Did anyone have a problem with this ammunition or does the gun need some work? Thanks.
backshootin beauford mcgee
might be the gun, but my bet is that it is the ammo. Privi Partizan is know to be very hot (high pressure) ammo.
Doc Fill 'Em 67797
Not much to go wrong with a Marlin 336. Try some different ammo before you do anything.
Hacker, SASS #55963
Have you changed the lever? Have you tried any other ammo? How does the ammo you are attempting to use measure against the specs for 30-30?
Fast Tracker
Thanks for the input. I tried Remington ammo. The gun runs smoothly now. The PPU rim is .005 in. thicker than Remington. Apparently that puts enough pressure on the bolt so that it cannot unlock.
