Trigger Mike Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 is there any other difference besides 20 in price between the winchester silver box and the black box ammo for rifles for 30.06 or 270? I ask since a friend lets me hunt on his farm I thought it would be nice to get him a box of ammo for his hunting rifle and saw the 40 dollar box but wondered if it is worth the price.
Pulp, SASS#28319 Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 Primary difference is bullet. The cheaper stuff has the old PowerPoint or SilverTip they've been making for years, the high dollar stuff has a premium bullet. Winchester and Nosler have joined to market Combined Technologies bullets. They're not cheap. The old SilverTips and PowerPoints have been killing deer and elk for many, many years, but may not hold together if shot out of super velocity rounds. Since you're talking about .270 and .30-06, there is really no need for the premium bullets. Unless your friend is going after grizzly or bigger game.
