  1. Greetings, I have recently obtained an 1885 Browning in 45-70 (1994 manufacture date). I want to upgrade the factory buckhorn sights to something more useful. It looks like the stock is attached via a screw like on many shotguns. IOWs there is no exposed metal tang so traditional tang sights won’t work. In Hawaii gunsmiths are hard to find, so I’d like to mount the sight myself. I plan to use the rifle mostly for recreational shooting. Any suggestions and recommendations would be greatly appreciated. (BTW Williams WGRS peep sight are no longer in production) V/R Col. Del Rio
  2. I just picked up a Browning 1885 in 45-70. I'd like to replace the factory sights with something better/more traditional. Any recommendations?
  3. I didn't try that. It was in a match so I forced things.
  4. I the pump action won't travel. It remains forward. It takes considerable effort to cycling the action.
  5. I measured/guessed right. Just remember that the recoil pad and leather cover take up room. And clothing too.
  6. I have 2 rather old 1987 Winchester pumps. Both have problems cycling/ejecting spent shells. The guns fire just fine, then they jam upon cycling the pump. I’ve tried several different kinds of ammo but the same result of jamming. Any suggestions, recommendations? Del Rio
  7. Thanks for the inputs. I was thinking of getting some shells for my wife. She is very petite so lighter recoil is better.
  8. Regarding caring for holsters after a match, what are the recommended treatments? Is there a spray to protect the leather? Thanks, Col. Del Rio
  9. In the Jan 22 issue of American Rifleman, there was an article on Mossberg 590s. In the article, 1 3/4" 12 GA shells were discussed. They work in the Mossberg. My questions are: 1. Are these kind of shells legal for SASS? 2. If so has anyone ever used them in the 1897 Winchester? Thanks, Col. Del Rio
  10. Being a Grandpa has its responsibilities and rewards. I taught me 22MO Grandson those 3 words every young man should know: "I'm Your Huckleberry." I'm so proud of him.
  11. Action closed or action open?
  12. Greetings, I have to cut down a 97 Win stock for my 5'2" wife. I have seen more rules-of-thumb for determining LOP than I care to count. Their recommendations vary by up to an inch! Anybody have a good formula or process so I can do this the right way, and once! Del Rio
