  1. Just think about this for a moment. A lot of people put out these little flags on Memorial Day. But do they pick them up? Several years back I noticed one Memorial Day that there was a whole bunch of those little flags in front of a church. I thought that was kind of neat. Spaced about 2 feet apart all the way down the property line. Couple days later I drive by the church. Several of the flags are still standing there. Several are laying on the ground. And a few of them are out in the street getting run over by traffic. Not so neat. A guy lived a block or so away from me and he had one of those little flags by his mailbox. I thought that was kind of patriotic, until I saw a dog pissing on it. Hmmm So those hundreds of flags that get put in cemeteries on Memorial Day - does anyone pick 'em up, or do they just stay out there till the wind blows them down and the rain rots them and the various and sundry critters do bad things to them?

  4. I sort of agree. Example - tuna fish, egg noodles, bread crumbs, cream of mushroom soup, and English peas. Put it all together and you have this nasty mess, that many people seem to think is wonderful. You do, however, realize that lasagna is a casserole?
  5. I hear you. I have one of those Hubertus lever locks, and the piece of crap will not hold an edge. The mechanism constantly fills up with pocket lint so when you try to open it it opens about a third to maybe halfway and stops. And then one day I opened it and I heard TING!! and the top third of the spring broke off and went bouncing across the kitchen floor.

  8. Me and thee have different understandings of that story. The way I read it the waitress said that you have to use the tablet. And Pat asked if she could take the order. And she told him again that he had to use the tablet. Then HE TOLD HER to use it or shove it, and he and the Mrs got up and left. I have never been in the place that had a kiosk. Maybe they haven't made it to my side of the country. Maybe my town is too small. But it seems to me that it would be like self-checkout in a big box store. If you want my business you will get somebody over here to ring the stuff up. If you can't be bothered to come ask me what I want and bring it up you obviously don't want to sell it to me. And I would leave. I have that same attitude about waiting to be served. There are many restaurants in my town. But there is no place that the food is so damn good that I'm willing to wait a half hour or more to be seated. If I go in and there's a huge line and they say "it's about a 40 minute wait", I turn around and go out the door and find some other place to eat.

Ingredients For the Australian Beef Casserole Recipe Beef Chuck Roast, trimmed and cut into bite-sized pieces Olive Oil Chopped Onion Minced Garlic Sliced Carrots Sliced Celery Peeled Potatoes Tomato Paste Worcestershire Sauce Dried Thyme Dried Rosemary Paprika Bay Leaf Beef Broth Salt Pepper Cooking Instructions For the Australian Beef Casserole Recipe Preheat oven to 350°F. In a large Dutch oven or oven-safe pot, heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the beef and cook until browned on all sides, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the beef from the pot and set aside. Add the remaining tablespoon of olive oil to the pot and sauté the onion and garlic until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes. Add the carrots, celery, and potatoes to the pot and cook for another 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Stir in the tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, paprika, and bay leaf. Cook for 1-2 minutes, until the herbs and spices are fragrant. Add the beef broth to the pot and bring to a boil. Return the beef to the pot and stir to combine. Cover the pot with a lid and transfer to the preheated oven. Bake for 2-2.5 hours, or until the beef is tender and the vegetables are cooked through. Remove the pot from the oven and discard the bay leaf. Season the casserole with salt and pepper, to taste. Serve hot, garnished with chopped fresh parsley or thyme, if desired. Since it is baked in the oven for a couple of hours, it might actually be a casserole. Still looks like stew. That recipe would probably be more helpful if it told you how much of the various ingredients for required, and not just the various ingredients. Ah well.
