  1. The young woman who submitted the tech support message below (about her relationship with her husband) presumably did it as a joke. Then she got a reply that was way too good to keep to herself. The tech support people's love advice was hilarious. The query: Dear Tech Support, "Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend 5.0 to Husband 1.0 and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewelry applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend 5.0. In addition, Husband 1.0 uninstalled many other valuable programs, such as Romance 9.5 and Personal Attention 6.5, and then installed undesirable programs such as NBA 5.0, NFL 3.0, and Golf Clubs 4.1. Conversation 8.0 no longer runs, and House cleaning 2.6 simply crashes the system. Please note that I have tried running Nagging 5.3 to fix these problems but to no avail. What can I do? Signed: Desperate The response (that came weeks later out of the blue) Dear Desperate, First, keep in mind, Boyfriend 5.0 is an Entertainment Package, while Husband 1.0 is an Operating System. Please enter the command: I thought you loved me.html and try to download Tears 6.2. Do not forget to install the Guilt 3.0 update. If that application works as designed, Husband 1.0 should then automatically run the applications Jewelry 2.0 and Flowers 3.5. However, remember, overuse of the Tears application can cause Husband 1.0 to default to Grumpy Silence 2.5, Happy Hour 7.0, or Beer 6.1. Please note that Beer 6.1 is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta version. Whatever you do, DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Mother-In-Law 1.0 as it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources. In addition, please do not attempt to re-install the Boyfriend 5.0 program. These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband 1.0. In summary, Husband 1.0 is a great program, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Cooking 3.0. Good Luck Tech Support
  2. Now that's really weird. When I posted it I could see it. Here's the link. https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x7yulkm
  3. Motorcyclism Suggested for you · · On this date, December 30, 1912, Lee Humiston, using a 1,000 cc twin cylinder chain driven Excelsior circled the banked one-mile oval track at Prince’s Playa del Rey, California in 36 seconds flat to become the first motorcyclist in the world “officially” timed at 100 mph. One week after his milestone accomplishment, “The Humiston Comet,” as he was promptly nicknamed by the press, surpassed Jake DeRosier’s record for 100 miles, trimming nearly seven and a half minutes from the fatally injured rider’s best time. Excelsior had won the race to the magic 100 mph mark and they had smashed the Indian-held record for the 100-mile distance as well. The publicity was enormous. Every school boy in America knew that a man had traveled at 100 miles per hour on a motorcycle, and that he had accomplished this feat on an Excelsior built in Chicago.
  4. I"ve played around with the variations. Spice Cake mix with Cock & Bull Ginger Beer. Or try Chocolate Cake with an orange soda. Lemon Cake with Ginger Beer.
  5. It would dilute the power of San Francisco and Los Angeles in the Senate. Looking at how CA voted by county 4 of the states created would likely elect 2 conservative senators each. At worst it would be a wash in the House. And, more important, it would greatly shift the number of Electors in the College.
  6. What are these things that you call "leftover primers and powder?"
  7. Probably had something to do with the Commonwealth status of the Philippines.
  8. Sounds like a personal problem. That's why I made a point to mention FB in the subject line, to try to ward off the professional victims who whine about not being able to see things on FB. I figured that if they see "FB" they'll just ignore it and move on.
  9. https://www.facebook.com/CampSLOMuseum For example History of Camp San Luis Obispo, California · +4 California State Military Museums Program, California Military Department · This week, our team at our Museum Support Center-South, Camp San Luis Obispo, completed Phase I of the restoration of our M1897 "French 75" 75mm Field Gun. Phase I restored this field piece to the World War II salute gun configuration. Soon, we will begin Phase II of this project. This phase will return this historic piece of artillery to its World War I configuration by fabricating and installing the shield and seats for the gunners. This configuration was used by the California National Guard's 143rd Field Artillery Regiment from World War I to 1933, when the regiment transitioned from horse-drawn guns to truck-drawn variants. The barrel and breech were manufactured in 1918 by the French arsenal, Atelier de Construction de Bourges ("Manufacturing Workshops of Bourges"). The carriage was also made in 1918 at the Willys Overland Company of Toledo, Ohio. We want to commend PFC(CA) Tom Wilmer for his efforts in restoring this piece of history and Mr. Rich Pecaoco for assisting with the final installation of the barrel. 10. Joe Lovell · Shared with Public Emmanuel Brazil VirayPhilippine Scouts Heritage Society (Official) · 2 LIEUTENANT ROBERTO H. LIM 2nd Lt. Roberto Hidalgo Lim is the son of Gen. Vicente Lim of the 41st Infantry Division. He was still at the United States Naval Academy when war broke out. He could not serve in the US Navy as he was a Filipino citizen, and thus he joined the 1st Filipino Regiment when it was mobilized in Camp San Luis Obispo in California. A few months later he joined the US Army Air Corps and trained as a pilot of a B-29 Superfortress, joining the bombing raids in Japan. Date: 1 March 1942
  11. Joe Lovell · Shared with Public U.S. Naval Institute · #OTD in 1942, USS Nautilus (SS-168) conducted an unusual mission by rescuing a group of refugees in the Solomons that included fourteen nuns in white habits who had evaded the Japanese for nine months. The nuns spent three days on the sub and were impressed with the hospitality offered to them by the sailors. Though they never figured out how to operate the complex flushing procedure for the head, the nuns did learn how to play cribbage. The four "Submarine Sisters" of St. Joseph of Orange returned to the Solomons after the war.
  12. Your Latin Lesson for today: "The phrase employs the gerundive, a verbal adjective, of deleo, delere, delevi, deletum, "to destroy",[2] (delendus, -a, -um). The future passive participle "delenda" (meaning "to be destroyed") is then combined with the verb sum ("to be"[3]) or parts thereof, adds an element of compulsion or necessity, yielding "is to be destroyed", or, as it is more commonly rendered "must be destroyed". This then forms a predicative adjective.[4] This construction in Latin is known as the passive periphrastic. Carthago, -inis being a feminine noun, the feminine gender of the gerundive is applied. The fuller forms Ceterum censeo Carthaginem esse delendam or Ceterum autem censeo Carthaginem esse delendam use the so-called accusative and infinitive for the indirect statement."
  13. I'm not Rye, nor do I play him on television, but that is exactly what I think our current administration is doing. Look at the emphasis placed on DEI training, and the expenses involved, to the detriment of readiness. Look at his USSC nominee - he fulfilled his promise to make race and gender THE qualification. At a different level, but if his dreams come true, it might be on the national level, look at The Gav and his pick to replace Feinstein. A black lesbian with zero experience in politics other than fundraising. Gotta check those boxes to keep the "victim class" voting for you. Of course, that means that you have to keep them convinced that they are, and will always remain victims. To the case at hand. While I don't doubt the technical ability of Lt. Col Bree Fram, I do doubt both the mental stability and dedication to the military as a fighting force rather than a big social engineering experiment. "Focuses on policy and advocacy work to develop a more inclusive military." Shouldn't the focus be on the mission of developing and maintaining a strong and effective military? And, from what I have read, admittedly not a great deal, even with the most aggressive "gender affirming" treatments, long term mental health is still an issue. LGBTQ++(or whatever it is this month) tend to still be more prone to depression, suicidality, anxiety, and other negative mental health issues.
  14. *** Visby mail coifs: ring sizes & mysterois disposal *** Two of the Visby mail coifs that had been clearly removed from the fallen soldiers' heads before getting tossed into the mass grave. One coif is of ~13 mm flat rings, another of 3.5-4 mm rings. This shows nicely the full range of mail sizes found in the Visby material. In my opinion, deliberate disposal of mail armours, especially those already removed from the bodies, and especially those of the coveted small rings, constitutes a mystery that is not satisfactorily explained by any theory to date. Once again, I thank the SHM curators Helena Rosengren and Maria Neijman for providing me access to these items. #history #medieval #medievaladvisor #armor #reenactment #helmet #knights #warfare #romanesque #manuscript #art #medievalart #gothic #castle #medievalarmor
  15. SWMBO was wanting rice and something. We had a white pumpkin. I went looking for pumpkin stuffed with rice and shrimp. Kept finding receipts that called for cream cheese, seasoning and herbs that we don't have, and convoluted cooking and assembly instructions. Told her to find one and she found Roasted Stuffed Pumpkin By Nigella Lawson Total Time: 2 hours The quantity of rice specified in the recipe is what I needed for the pumpkin I stipulate, but I should say two things here. One is that you might not find (or want) a pumpkin of exactly the same weight. The other is that different pumpkins have different-size cavities. The easiest way to find out how much rice you need is as follows: When you have cut the top off and scraped out the seeds, take a plastic freezer bag and line the cavity with it. Pour rice into the bag to about halfway up the cavity, then pour out the rice into a measuring cup. Double the measurement to determine how much stock or water to cook the rice in. The plastic liner is not a hygiene thing: it is just that if you don’t use it, you will spend ages scraping out the rice. I know whereof I speak. INGREDIENTS Yield: 8 to 10 servings 1 6½- to 7-pound sugar pumpkin, or other pumpkin suitable for eating 1tablespoon vegetable oil 1onion, finely chopped 3cloves garlic, 2 minced, 1 halved 1cup dried cranberries 1teaspoon ground ginger * 1teaspoon allspice * ¼teaspoon saffron threads Finely grated zest of half an orange (or Lemon Zest) 2cups basmati rice 4cups vegetable stock ** Salt PREPARATION Step 1 Heat oven to 400 degrees. Fill a kettle with water, and bring to a boil. In a large saucepan over medium-low heat, heat the oil, and sauté the onion until it is softened. Add 2 minced garlic cloves, and sauté for 30 seconds. Stir in the cranberries, ginger, allspice, saffron and orange zest. Add the rice, and stir until it is glossy. Pour in stock, and bring to a boil. Cover, and reduce heat as low as possible. Cook for 15 minutes. Step 2 About an inch below the top of the pumpkin’s ‘’shoulders,’’ about where it would be cut to carve a jack-o’-lantern, slice a lid from top of pumpkin, and set it aside. Remove seeds and fibrous flesh from inside. Rub the inside of pumpkin with cut garlic clove, and rub with some salt to taste. Step 3 When rice has cooked for 15 minutes, it will be damp and not very fluffy. Adjust seasoning to taste, and spoon into pumpkin cavity. Press lid firmly on top. It may sit above stuffing a bit like a jaunty cork. Wrap bottom two to three inches of pumpkin in a double layer of foil to protect it from contact with water during baking. Place in a roasting pan, and add about 1 inch of boiling water to pan. Step 4 Bake the pumpkin until it is tender when pierced with a knife, about 1½ hours. (If there is resistance when pumpkin is pierced, allow more baking time.) To serve, remove pumpkin from pan, and allow it to rest for about 10 minutes. Discard foil, and place pumpkin on a serving platter. Slice into segments like a cake. Place a wedge of pumpkin on each serving plate, and mound with rice stuffing. *I replaced these with Garum Masala **If you are going to serve this with meat or shrimp, you can use Chicken Stock, Beef Stock, Shrimp Stock to match the protein I made it to go with Shrimp and used water and powdered Shrimp Base for the liquid. I also seasoned the Shrimp with Garam Masala and more of the Shrimp Base. Put the seasoning on when I put the Pumpkin in the oven, then started the Air Fryer for the shrimp when I pulled the Pumpkin out. Usually when I save a receipt to our folder I don't include the front matter, but in this case it's a useful technique. I also rearranged the instructions to read getting the rice cooking first then cleaning the pumpkin, it just seemed to make more sense that way. I, as you see, made some small changes in the ingredients so it would be a better match for shrimp. Turned out that the pumpkin, as we both suspected, wasn't an "eatin' pumpkin." Oh, it's edible, but tasteless. If we were hurting we'd eat it. Tonight I used Lemon Zest instead of Orange Zest, first, because we don't have any oranges, and second, because we thought that Lemon would go better with the Shrimp. Just cooking the Rice in a pot, forget the pumpkin, would be a good dish. Or use it to stuff an Acorn Squash or Delicata Squash. Leftover Rice will make an excellent good Fried Rice. Other than the Pumpkin being bland, it was a very good dinner.
