Buckshot Bear Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 America's second most-powerful diplomat has suggested Australian nuclear-powered submarines acquired under AUKUS could eventually be deployed against China in any military conflict over Taiwan. https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-04/us-official-suggests-a-taiwan-war-could-see-aukus-subs-deployed/103669794
Chantry Posted April 4, 2024 Posted April 4, 2024 Substitute China with the Japan of WWII for an idea of what a hostile China might be capable of. The difference China probably has the manpower to invade Australia, something Japan never had, but faces the same problem Japan faced, supplying their forces. I'd have to do a lot more research, but WITHOUT Chinese allies in the region, there is a good chance we would see (in general) a repeat of the submarine war against Japan during WWII.
