Driver From NZ Wins In His First NASCAR Cup Race In His First Cup Race

Shane Van Gisbergen won his first NASCAR Cup race in the first road race in Chicago. A driver winning his first NASCAR race in his first race hasn't happened in 60 years since Johnny Rutherford won Daytona in 1963. Oh, did I mention that Van Gisbergen is from New Zealand and had never even sat in a Cup car until this weekend.

The race started in the rain and ended on a dry track. Many of the 'big' names in NASCAR couldn't handle wet conditions and crashed, some multiple times. Van Gisbergen drove a great race and stayed in the top five all race long. He made some clean passes at the end of the race to earn him the victory. Hope to see more of him in the future.

If you missed this race, it was a pretty good one.

Congratulation Mr. Van Gisbergen

It was a pretty good race. The weather and multiple crashes caused officials to shorten it by teenty-five laps to avoid running into darkness.

Two of the crash victims ended up in the top ten and the two drivers that led the most laps finished deep in the field due to their own crashes.

Lots of slipping and sliding due to the weather and to drivers over driving the track and sketchy conditions.
