I have some significant and exciting news to share with you! I've joined CNN. This will not have any adverse effect on The Reload, and I will continue to report here as I have since we launched.

In fact, we're doing a 20% OFF sale right now. Please sign up if you're interested in helping grow the publication!

But, even though it won't directly impact The Reload, I think it's a good idea to explain why I decided to become a CNN analyst.

Why I’m Joining CNN as an Analyst
By Stephen Gutowski

I have signed a contract to be a contributor with CNN.
I’m excited about the opportunity to work with many solid reporters and reach a new audience. I’ve long criticized how major media outlets have reported on firearms. A severe lack of knowledge about guns, gun owners, gun laws, and even gun politics is endemic throughout the industry.

But I’ve also long been an advocate of engaging with other reporters to help foster a more informed media. I’ve contributed stories to outlets across the political spectrum. I’ve given advice to writers at every one of the top news outlets in the country and even taken many to the range for first-hand experience.

So, I’m glad to get a chance to put that worldview into practice on a greater scale than ever before.

Nothing will change here at The Reload. We will continue to produce sober, serious firearms journalism on the same schedule as before. We will remain independent and informed. If anything, my role as a CNN contributor will help us grow by reaching a lot of new people with our unique approach to covering guns in America.

CNN is paying me for my insight and analysis. That’s exactly what I plan to give them without fear or favor. Nobody has tried to tell me what to say or implied I ought to change my approach, which is good because I would have declined to move forward had that been the case.

Instead, CNN has made clear to me that the goal is to produce nuanced segments to dig into the issues surrounding guns in a way that informs rather than inflames. I’m going to be a subject matter expert, not a commentator. So, don’t expect to see me in many heated debates or going up against your favorite or least-favorite opinion personality.

Do expect me to do my best to fairly and accurately describe gun policy and politics debates. And please hold me to that expectation.

Thanks again,
Stephen Gutowski

I sincerely hope that they allow your expertise to be fully brought to the public.

I sincerely doubt that what you say will ever be reported in a truthful, honest manner.
