Goody, SASS #26190 Posted February 28, 2022 Posted February 28, 2022 Copied from the Shooters Handbook, dated January 2022. "A pocket pistol is a small frame, fixed sight, pre-1900 design revolver having a barrel length of four inches or less. Pocket pistols must be .31 caliber or larger. Model “P” Colts and clones and revolvers with swing out cylinders are specifically not allowed regardless of caliber, frame size, or barrel length. Colt Model 1877 DA revolvers are LEGAL for use as pocket pistols. Pocket pistols may not be used as or converted to main match revolvers." Admittedly I have not been a TG for 10 or 12 years. Nor have I shot in 5 or 6 years. But I do frequent the wire almost daily. When were the rules amended to allow the 1877 Colt? Not trying to start any arguments or a peeing contest, just wondering how I missed this.
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L Posted March 1, 2022 Posted March 1, 2022 Posted 17 DEC 2018: The issue of the legality of the COLT MODEL 1877 DA revolver (in all 3 chamberings) for pocket pistol sidematch use has been resolved by a majority vote of the SASS Range Operations Committee (ROC). The consensus is that models with a <4" barrel are SASS-LEGAL "Pocket Pistols" NOTE: This ruling does NOT apply to the following revolvers: The Cimarron "New Lightning" (a reduced size Model "P" with the 1877-style grip/frame) The Cimarron "New Thunderer" (a full-sized Model "P" with the 1877-style grip/frame) The Colt Model 1878 (a large-frame DA revolver) ...all of which are precluded under current rules due to frame design and/or size.
