Nevada: Governor Signs Bloomberg Background Check Bill Criminalizing Private Firearm Transfers

Today, February 15^th, Governor Steve Sisolak signed Senate Bill 143 shortly after the Nevada State Assembly passed this legislation on a 28-13 vote.

The NRA would like to thank the countless NRA members, Second Amendment Supporters, and Legislators who were engaged throughout this process and voiced strong opposition.

Senate Bill 143, which is set to go into effect January 2^nd, 2020, is an effort to fix the flawed Bloomberg Background Check Initiative from the 2016 election (Question 1).  SB 143 repeals the Question 1 language and replaces it with closely mimicked language that most notably moves the background check from the federally run NICS system to the Nevada Central Repository.  It will require anyone relinquishing possession of a firearm to visit a federally licensed dealer in order to process a Nevada state background check, with limited exceptions, or face criminal penalties.  The bill, like the initiative, presents many of the same problems that were repeatedly brought to light during the joint judiciary committee hearing as well as on the floor in both chambers.  Undefined terms and unworkable exemptions remain problematic along with a myriad of other issues.

During the 2016 general election campaign 16 out of 17 county sheriffs stated in adds that they won't enforce the Bloomberg poorly written UBC Question One.  Their reason was that they don't have the resources to enforce the law.  The 17th sheriff declined to state whether he was for or against it.  The only NV LEO to appear in the for adds was a retired LVPD detective.  While it passed by 10K in the Nov 2016 election that saw over $80 million in campaign expenditures by democrats for POTUS & senatorial set vacated by retiring Harry Precious Pup Reed.   $80 million in a state with a population of 2.9 million.  Did you know that Hillary was the best choice for POTUS because she has Lady Parts?  You sure would if your TV & radio included Las Vegas or Reno stations.  Being a recent (Jan 1, 2013) resident of the Battle Born state I now appreciate living in a one party state.  During a election year the automobile & lawyer adds are replaced by campaign adds.
