Buffalo Bill Mathewson, 37826
Who do you recommend for re-bluing a gun. The owner of the gun lives in the Tulsa Ok area. Thanks BBM
8 Bits
Brownells Dicropan IM. Please read my articles http://www.ktgunsmith.com/refinish_45acp_cyl.htm and http://www.ktgunsmith.com/Win97_refinish.htm. All you need is an iron container large enough to hold your gun parts and boiling water. I refinished a Ruger Blackhawk cylinder, and a complete Winchester '97 using this method and they both came out beautifully. I did it in my kitchen because this is a rust blue method and doesn't use caustic bluing salts. You can do it yourself.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Depends upon the quality of the job that the gun owner needs/wants. Most local gunsmiths can handle "something close to a factory reblue." Only a few get to the level of a master level (restoration) refinish with all lettering protected, all edges square and sharp (as they were originally), polish exactly as desired, etc. One close to Tulsa would be Run-n-Iron Restoration service in Nebraska. http://www.runniron.com/index_cowboy.html In Amarillo, LongHunter is now doing refinishing services, including quality blueing and bone color case hardening: http://www.longhunt.com/web (Contact them by phone or email - they don't have a section of their web pages yet with their pricing on finishing). And Turnbull Restoration in NY would do a fantastic job. http://www.turnbullmfg.com Arranging a firearm refinish job from a distance for another owner is often a fool's errand. Hard to get everyone on the same level of expectations and schedule, etc, etc. Best to let the owner of the firearm make the final arrangements! Or, something simpler perhaps, you take total responsibility for getting the work done, and you select the craftsman to do the work to your satisfaction, then return the gun to owner. Then disagreements are limited to just you and the gun owner. Good luck, GJ
