Shootin Straight
Howdy pards, My pa, Tracker Fred, who don't do the SASS wire thing - ran into a broken sear on his 2 year old 66. Maybe shot 1500 rounds. Looked around and did see some references to soft metal on some of the Uberti parts. The sear was worn down, and started to not lock back the hammer. Hoping for some more cowboy information on it, and suggestions for a long term fix. Thanks, Shootin Straight.
Fast Enuff
Have a good smith look at it. See if it's repairable. If it is, have him properly heat harden the metal. If not, get it replaced, and still have it hardened. Uberti has really dropped the ball on metal hardness. My 66 needed the sear reworked and hardened a year or so ago. The fix or replacement may still not last forever, but it should go a whole lot longer than 1500 rounds. Put a tiny drop of good lube on the sear surfaces once in a while like Gun Butter or similar. Idaho Coyote'
Has Uberti quality fallin' off that much. I have a 66 from 2001 The screws are soft but the sear, hammer and trigger are rock solid. They may be the only parts I haven't upgraded or worn out
Smokestack SASS#87384
Check for peeking on the end of the half cock notch on the hammer. Sometimes they are not set up correctly and the sear can catch on the notch on the way down damaging it.
