The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 L'Red, what I spoke of is fact about the '65. I is NOT, a put-down in any way. You are not the only .40-65 shooter in this conversation(I was 1 too) Also-No one shoots .45 cal 405-420gn FP in BPCR SS-rifles, in any serious and real long range events. Most .45 cal shooters use 500-540 gn or so bullets designed for such use. I use a Paul Jones grease groove- 540 gn Creedmoor, that I cast 30:1 for both my Shiloh .45-70 and .45-90 rifles. I used the same bullet style for the .40-65 also. Here is a good source for custom bullet molds, now that Paul Jones has closed up shop. http://www.sageoutfitters.com/page/page/7184637.htm If you're ever out in my neck of the world-Bring your '65, and we can head over to a 600 yd private range about 20 minutes from my place to ring some steel. LG

Cicero Grimes SASS#35479 Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Thanks for the reply. If you had not already been told, there was a fair amount of variation in chamber and barrel diameter in these guns. Marlin got every pennies worth out of their reamers. Check your barrel diameter and buy lead to match for best results.

Seawolf, SASS 53736 Posted March 22, 2014 Posted March 22, 2014 Had the same idea a few years back. Bought a 45-70 Pedersoli Sharps target rifle-think that's what it's called and a long range soule sight set up. Never got it together and rifle has never been shot. Think the barrel is about 34 in long oct to round and the rifle weighs 12 er 13 lbs. Should have boxes an all tucked away-Gun down in safe. PM you. Caco Still got it? How much?
