Subdeacon Joe
http://www.sfexaminer.com/local/2013/03/san-francisco-ban-military-style-ammo-expected-pass Possession of certain extra-lethal bullets would be banned in SanFrancisco under a proposal expected to pass the Board of Supervisorstoday, even as a legal challenge to a prior ammo-sales ban proceeds. Hollow-point bullets that expand into jagged metallic petals onimpact, as well as bullets intended solely for “law enforcement ormilitary agencies,” would be banned locally under legislation introducedby Mayor Ed Lee and Supervisor Malia Cohen in the wake of the Decembermassacre at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newton, Conn. Exactly what rounds would be subject to the ban would be up to thePolice Department, which would create a list of banned ammo if the lawpasses. California state law already bans the sale, use and possession of“unreasonably dangerous” ammunition, including rounds designed to piercebody armor. And a 2007 city law bans sales of all hollow-pointammunition. Violators would face either a misdemeanor or an infraction, punishable by jail time or a $1,000 fine. The law also would apply topeople traveling through San Francisco on U.S. Highway 101 or InterstateHighway 80. Yet police say such ammo is very rarely used in San Francisco gunviolence. The SFPD crime lab’s last recorded incident involving suchrounds was six years ago, according to police Sgt. Michael Andraychak. Gun violence in San Francisco has been on an overall downward patternsince 2007, but tighter restrictions on ammo are part of a nationwideresponse to the carnage at Sandy Hook, where 20 first-graders and sixadults were killed by a gunman with an assault rifle. Sales of all hollow-point rounds — bullets designed to flatten onimpact and be more lethal, but also not travel beyond the target — werebanned in San Francisco in 2007 by then-Mayor Gavin Newsom. But theNational Rifle Association filed a suit in 2008 to overturn the ban. That suit was dismissed after a judge ruled that the ban on saleswithin The City doesn’t prevent people from acquiring such ammoelsewhere. But the case has been appealed. Gun advocates called the new proposal vague and vowed legal action.International rules of warfare ban the use of hollow points, GeneHoffman of the Calguns Foundation noted, while state Fish and GameDepartment rules ban the use of anything but hollow points whilehunting. Meanwhile, San Francisco police use .40-caliber hollow-point ammunition, which would remain available for purchase by civilians. Gunner Gatlin, SASS 10274L
Saw that on Calguns...they label it right when they say a ban on 'self defense ammo'. San Fran legislators only empower the criminal... GG Link to comment
Longhorn Jack
Apparently they don't understand over penetration hollow points 99% of the time will stay in the targeted law breaker while full metal jacketed ammo 99%and end up killing some innocent bystander 17 blocks away after goimg completely through the intended law breaker. What a bunch of idiots. I did not acquire my cpl to wound a life threating criminal attacking me I learned in cpl class to kill said attacker GRAVE YARD DEAD. Law enforcement doesn't shot to wound armed threating criminals and neither would I. Center mass1 in the head and 2 in the chest. Done Link to comment
