Come On Christmas Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 I been buying Lee Dies since I started reloading for CAS. Which mold do you use? They Lees are all gas checkable, but I won't use gas checks. Is there a better bullet mold in 30 30 for Cody Dixon Shooting? Are there store bought lead bullets you can use what do not have gas checks? P.M. me your favorite 30WCF smokeless or black powder round. Seems like you would want to use a tamer load for 75 or 100 yards. Shameless
Tom Bullweed Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Check out Georgia Arms for cowboys loads. I am rebuilding a circa 1907 Model 1894 used in the Mex Revolution by an officer for Zappata (great provenance). I plan to exclusively shoot 170-grain lead bullets at 1500 fps with Varget or 5744 powder. Loading data for these two powders covers this velocity.
Captain Woodrow Cahill, SASS # 54363 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 For 30-30 bullets w/o gas checks I've had good results with Missouri Bullet Co. products ... http://www.missouribullet.com/index.php

Butch McGie, SASS#71758 Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Some say that barrel leading is caused by bullets that are soft, and that a harder bullet can be propelled faster without leading. I have found that the 170 gr Laser cast bullets with a hardness around 20 or 21 do not cause leading at 1600 fps. Marlin and 94 30 /30 rifles.
