Rowdy-Finn
Went to a SASS sanctioned state-match recently with my lil' Buckarette. We were somewhat confused when we learned of a 14 year old competitor shooting in the "Buckaroo/Buckarette" category. We thought that the "Buckaroo/Buckarette" category was for kids 13 and under and that 14, 15 and 16 year olds shot as "Young-guns" (Boy/Girl), "Cowboy/Cowgirl" or something else? Can someone in the know please explain the age requirements to us. We are not posting this with any intent of protest or anything like that at all. The 14 year old mentioned is a great little competitor and a great addition to our sport as we need more junior-shooters at all the SASS events. We just want to clear up the confusion for ourselves and/or anyone else who will be signing up their young-un for SASS competition. Thanks in advance, Rowdy

Juniors are persons aged 16 and under. The category may be subdivided by age and gender. Suggested divisions are “Young Guns” aged 14 through 16 and “Buckaroos” 13 and under. Caution is urged in allowing competitors under age 14. Local laws, regulations, and insurance requirements may prevent matches from offering some age groups. They probably forgot to bump them up from a birthday.

I just wanted to make sure there hadn't been a rule change that we weren't aware of. Thanks for the rule-book info.
Phantom, SASS #54973
Yep - it's a Sub-division of the Junior class. Meant to be a place for little ones to learn the ropes.
