All new Marlin rifles have them, Every shoot I have been to someone has been using them, so I am assuming that they are O.K., have seen them on 92 & 94 Winchesters as well! It is a slide on device for the hammer attached by an allan headed screw, that extends the width of the hammer, can be used either left or right handed!
