BIG BIG FAVOR NEEDED

Recommended Posts

Friends,

Taking a long shot here. This coming Saturday afternoon, my bride and I are flying into San Jose, Ca and then driving a rental car down to Watsonville for a very special occasion. We are escorting my mother-in-law who is 98 to her favorite nephew's 60th Wedding anniversary party as a surprise. We have a little challenge that we have not been able to work out and I am hoping maybe someone here might be able to help. My mother-in-law is very agile and gets around very well(for someone who has worked hard all of her life)but she would really be much better off if we can lay hands on a good walker for her. We have tried asking the hotel where we are staying and also we searched the local area for a rental type deal, like at Wal-Greens, but so far we have had no luck. Any suggestions? Needless to say, Thank all of you for your help(in advance)

Two suggestions:

1) Take a walker with you and check it at the on-ramp. They are required to take it.

2) Call the local pharmacies in Watsonville. Believe it or not, pharmacies are often the source for medical equipment rentals. Our local Southgate Drug rents a variety of medical equipment.

Best,

Okie

Fraternal organizations such as the Masons and the Kof C sometimes run medical equipment charities for folks that can not afford to rent things like hospital beds wheel chairs chamber stools and walkers as do local elder affaires and hospice operations You might give those sorts of outlets a call also some emergency room departments still do rentals of things like crutches and walkers as do larger pharmacies

Good luck with your trip

Hi, Big50

Honestly, at her age, it would likely be a good idea to buy her one, permanently, for her to have and to keep. Take it with her where ever she goes. If she's not needing it that much, now, she will. It's a very good thing to have, and is a lot cheaper than doctor bills if she falls sometime. :)

When My late Mother needed one after a new hip was fitted I added a bike bell and hand grip streamers to dress it up and It got her a lot of smiles and some nice chats resulted from her ringing the bell to let folks know she was coming... She favored the sort that has wheels on 2 corners and a brake as well as a seat that flipped down for when she got tired. I also painted it candy apple red metal flake

did you know that in most of europe a walker is called a "Zimmer Frame"
