setting swinging steel targets

I have wondered about the practice of swinging targets that may angle the splash safely with the first shot of a string but due to being set swinging with said first shot may be caught at an unsafe angle when the shooter gets back to it in the sweep...

is this taken into account when setting the steel? the one time I have helped in setting up a stage it did not seem to be only the initial static angle seemed to be of concern.

So is this a non problem caused by my over thinking about it or should the return swing be restrained from coming forward

Yep your overthinking...plus it's style points if you can get the target to swing around 360!

Use of swinging targets is considered problematic enough around here that we rarely see them any more, except for shotgun . Safety, plus scoring, plus longevity problems make them less than desirable.

Good luck, GJ
