Iron Pony Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Weather is going nuts up here. After two days running from 45-60 degrees we had winds up to 54MPH here last night and this morning. Damn pine trees apparently still have lots of heavy cones remaining and the drop from 100 feet or so plus what sounds like a freight train running past kept the cats on their toes. That of course means them racing around the house all night and me trying to sleep while they do high speed laps with my reclining form as one of the turns. Was going to shoot the 45-70 today but I think instead I'll watch the skeet folks try to figure the lead on a 30MPH or so crosswind. Can just see the birds coming out of the house and going sideways. Ought to be fun.
Iron Pony Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Braved the weather and decided to shoot some pistol on the enclosed range but the problem was my eyes watering from the cold wind coming right straight into the window at the chosen shooting position. Well thats what I'll blame my misses on. Watched a pair of trap shooters missing a bunch from the heavy cross wind. They must not have been real serious trap guys as one actually joked with the other asking if he was shooting blanks. Guess it will turn out to be a good day to cut the crimps out of all that GI 30Carbine brass, sounds like lots of fun doesnt it?
Utah Bob #35998 Posted February 19, 2011 Posted February 19, 2011 Whippin pretty good here too. Good thing I can shoot out of my reloading shed. Wind chills a booger. Easier to find the brass on the floor than in the snow/mud.
Iron Pony Posted February 19, 2011 Author Posted February 19, 2011 Bob thats why I only fired about 20 rounds of 30carbine the other day, brass wont be recoverable till the spring thaw. I'm jealous of your set up, kind of like the ranch house my folks had before they moved into town. I used to shoot off the picnic table on the back porch with the targets clothes pinned to the barb wire fence marking out five acres around the house. If you needed to shoot farther just drive out one of the platte roads, set you target up and drive back to the firing line. Backstop was the Manzano Mtns and nearest neighbor, in that direction, was seven miles away IIRC.
