Rube Burrows
I have a friend who brought me a FN made Browning A5 in 16 Gage. Dont really know where to find out any info on it. The screws and trigger guard along with the bolt seem to have been nickled at some point in time. Not sure its factory or not. Does not appear to be. The screws in the receiver are also nickle looking. Just trying to find out a little more info on the gun and a range of possibly value. http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm30/wheeler331/Gregs%20Guns/DSCN0223.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm30/wheeler331/Gregs%20Guns/DSCN0220.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm30/wheeler331/Gregs%20Guns/DSCN0218.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm30/wheeler331/Gregs%20Guns/DSCN0221.jpg http://i292.photobucket.com/albums/mm30/wheeler331/Gregs%20Guns/DSCN0219.jpg Looked on the Browning Website for date info but could not figure it out. Thanks for any time.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
You can go here to see if serial number information is available for your gun. Scroll down a bit and they have what FN data is available. With the safety in the forward part of the trigger guard and the double screws it is a fairly old one. However, with the poorly fitted recoil pad, old polychoke (a big minus), and its general condition it is a shooter. Probably worth in the $300.00 to $400.00 range. http://proofhouse.com/browning/index.html
Dirtwater Doc 17941
I had one of the 16 ga FNs that had the 2 9/16" chamber, it was made in 1932. These can be modified to accept longer 2 3/4" shells. The Cutts compensator detracts somewhat from the value. I sold that one several years ago. I now have a newer 12 ga. A5 FN made in 1932 that shoots 2 3/4" plus a pair of 1960s era 12 ga magnum and 20 ga light. Here are some good websites: http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewforum.php?f=53 Best source for A5 information.
