bullet molds

Bow View

Recommended Posts

We have found that we have several sets of extra bullet molds. These are all 2 cavity steel molds (Magma, RCBS, Balistiacast) that were running on a very old Balist-a-cast "Bullet Master" (copy of the Magma machine) We have sets of 8, sets of 4 or individual molds.

My question is, would there be any interest in them as sets of 8 or 4 ready to run with side plates and cutters or should I break them up as individual molds and sell the side plates and cutters separate?

This is not a for sale ad right now so don't ask what I all have. I haven't even taken an inventory lately as to what we have to sell. Just trying to decide if it would be better to sell as sets of to break them up.

Thank you for any input.

I've always wanted one of those casting machines for the speed and effortless casting they provide, but they have always been too rich for my blood and I've never been able to rub enough nickles together to get one. My career (now disabled) has always afforded me the toys that I wanted so I imagined that the cost of these units were a bit rich for others as well. With that in mind, I would say your best bet would be to split them up to two cavity molds and sell them that way. Everyone can run a two cavity mold, but only a very few can make use of a gang of eight of four. Smithy.

If you would:

1 - make a good inventory, including looking molds over for burrs, rust, any other detrimental damage that they have got,

2 - check exactly which current casting machines can use the adapter plates that the molds have now,

3 - set your asking prices,

4 - run an ad in Cast Boolits forum, Open Range Forum, and here on the Wire classifieds to offer to sell the ready-to-run molds with adapters, with no breakup of the sets.

You would probably get some interest and probably move the more popular mold sets very quickly.

Then with the remaining molds:

5 - separate the adapters

6 - run new ads in the same forums for individual molds, specifying no handles included

6b - maybe also run ads on eBay and the gun auction sites (each mold separately)

7 - run an ad for the adapters, clearly stating what molds and casting machines you know they work with

This technique probably moves the molds and adapters as fast as you can and gets you the best prices possible. You can probably get more selling each mold individually, but you have to consider the time and hassle of dealing with individual buyers. You probably won't sell the adapters at all unless you get a "bulk" buyer with a casting machine in operation.

Good luck, GJ
